Week 1 News
Hello, and welcome to your First-Year Seminar II class for Spring 2020! I am so excited to be your instructor!
What should you call me?
My name is a little complicated because I have two last names (my maiden name, Hood, and my married name, Luttrell), and I am called both by the university.
My full name is Mary Hood Luttrell, so you may call me any of the following…
Mary, Professor Luttrell, or Professor Hood. “Mary” is the simplest, but I realize that you may be more comfortable with something more formal. When in doubt, plain old “Professor” will work.
Pro tip: Each instructor has his or her own preference for what to call them. Be sure to ask if you’re not sure 🙂
Blackboard
I will use Blackboard to record attendance and grades. You may also find our syllabus and major assignment directions (forthcoming) on Bb. I will use Bb to communicate announcements (which I will also do on this website) and collect electronic assignments.
How this site works:
Before the start of each week (by Sunday night), I will post an outline of my lesson plans for the following week to give you an idea of what we will be doing in class. I will also include the homework and exercises I will be asking you to work on. I will also post announcements.
You can also find our syllabus on this site.
How to contact me:
Email! mary.hood@tamucc.edu

What you’ll need for this class:
There are no textbook requirements for Seminar II. I encourage you to bring writing utensils and paper to class for our in-class activities. Also, you may find it helpful to keep a binder or folder to collect handouts.
A Few Tips about MUSI 1306
- Be sure to access the electronic course material through Dr. Pool’s Bb rather than an outside source.
- Use your islander email address to access the content.
That’s all for now!
