Class Plan for Tuesday, February 11, 2020
Announcements
Concert review formatting–there are no formatting requirements listed on the Concert Reviews, but simple, standard academic formatting is preferred:
- Paragraphs rather than bullet points
- You may write paragraphs in order of the questions asked
- Times New Roman, 12-point font, double spaced
- See more tips here
Listening Assessments–Are you remembering to do them? Consider setting a phone reminder for yourself if you forget.
There is no MUSI 1306 class meeting on Thursday, Feb. 13. (Keep an eye for announcements from Dr. Pool). Seminar will still meet.
Your first test for MUSI opens next week. We will be doing test prep in Seminar on Thursday.
Music Sentence Stems
While listening to your chosen song for your group, create sentence stems/ fill-in-the-blank (like our Adele activity from last week). Some topics to consider include:
- mood
- tone color/timbre
- lyrics
- chorus / verses
- instrumentation
- dynamics
- effect on the listener
- beat
- depth
- interesting moments
Aim to write at least 10 sentence stems.
Group members will exchange fill-in-the-blank/sentence stems and complete them. Save your sentence stems–groups will be informally presenting their best sentence stems on Tuesday, Feb. 18.
If time remains–What do lyrics have to do with instrumentals/background music?
Let’s listen and discuss!
