Meeting Our Peer Mentor!
Today we will hear a short presentation from our Peet Mentor Jessie Baza! You have been receiving lovely and information emails from her–she is a great resource for our class!
Completing Music Sentence Stems Activity
. . . but first, a survey!
We will get into our groups and informally present music sentence stems with group members.
- Do you think you have any active listening weaknesses? What do you have difficulty focusing on while you’re listening to your song?
- With this in mind, think of a few goals for your listening sessions for your Listening Log (due April 2).
- Be as specific as possible. For example, instead of “Goal: Listen to background instrumentals,” try “Goal: Listen to the way background instrumentals change over the course of the song to parallel the intensifying of emotion in the lyrics.”
- Remember that the Listening Log is an individual assignment, and you must complete 3 separate listening sessions per song (so 6 total, including 3 for the song that Dr. Pool will assign your group).
Instructions:
On the notecard provided, write down two listening goals for your listening sessions for your contemporary piece.
Wait to write down a third goal. As the class shares some of their goals, listen, and, if possible, get inspired to write down a third listening goal for yourself.
You don’t have to stick to these goals–you can adapt them (or completely toss them out) as needed. The purpose of this activity is to get you started!
