Updates to UCCP-1102 First-Year Seminar II Effective March 23
Triad AM, sections 100 and 101 with Professor Mary Hood Luttrell
Now that our course has officially been moved online, I’ve updated our syllabus, certain due dates, and our class policies. Please read through the updates detailed below, and please take a look at the updated syllabus (effective March 23).
I will miss seeing everyone in class! However, I am confident that our online endeavors will allow us to continue to pursue our class theme—rolling in the deep—thanks, Adele 😉
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Nuts & Bolts
Our revised syllabus is live.
No attendance requirement for the remainder of the semester. Daily work will take place online in an asynchronous format (you will do the work in your own time over the course of the workweek).
Class will operate on a weekly schedule now. Our Tuesday/Thursday schedule is no longer applicable. You will receive assignments, announcements, and instructions on Monday. Assignments and activities will be due by end-of-day Friday (11:59 PM).
Grades and their respective weights for prior activities when we were meeting F2F (including prior attendance from Jan 21 – March 5) will remain unchanged. (In sum, the shift to online will not erase old grades.)
There will be no face-to-face/in-person requirements. This means everything will be online for the rest of the semester. Our Triad will work on revising the group project (stay tuned).
You may live off-campus. There is nothing you need on campus for the rest of this class.
However, if you choose to remain on/near campus, certain amenities will still be available to you, including the library (computers are being moved farther apart to allow for social distancing).
Office Hours & Communication
My office hours will take place online—same schedule: Monday 1-3 PM. I will be extra available via email. If you would like to meet in real-time, I can quickly set up a WebEx meeting. Through WebEx we can talk (like Skype or FaceTime) and/or use the chatbox. Using the video conferencing is optional. We can also set up a chat for another time during the week.
Office hours aside, I will remain highly available to your emails during the workweek. If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact me (that’s what I’m here for!).
In return, please be extra attentive to your islander email and Bb announcements for all of your classes.
IMPORTANT: If you are experiencing hardships (whether or not they are related to COVID-19) that are interfering with your ability to complete your work on schedule, please get in touch with me. We will work something out.
Major Assignments / New Due Dates
I have updated the due dates of the Listening Logs and the Research Table so that they occur on Friday.
Triad AM is still revising the final group assignment. I will keep you updated.
Miscellaneous
You’re welcome to join the Slack “team” that I’ve created. Here is the link.
You may use this platform to chat about anything (it doesn’t have to be school-related!) and start your own conversation channels (the hashtags indicate channels). I only ask that you use basic etiquette and keep the convos appropriate, etc. I will check in from time to time, but this is mainly for students to use as desired for the remainder of the semester.
Once you’ve created an account, you can choose a profile picture and say hi! Again, this is purely optional and will not count toward any part of your grade. I just thought it would be nice to offer an online alternative to in-class socializing. 🙂
