March 23 – March 27, 2020
Welcome back!
Here’s your agenda for this week:
Homework
- If you haven’t done so already, please review the updated syllabus for First-Year Seminar. The syllabus is also available on Bb. Let me know if you have any questions.
- Complete the Welcome Back Survey – please complete this as soon as you can. I would like to see the results sooner rather than later. But don’t stress over this. It is short with mostly multiple-choice options. (10 minutes)
- Webex: Please set up your computers for Webex. We will likely be working with this platform during the semester. Everyone has a Webex link on the sidebar menu in Blackboard under Collaboration Tools. You can even host a meeting with your friends! Start playing around with it by going here. I would like us to use this for our group conferences for the Comparison Project and possibly for other activities. This kind of platform is widely used in the business world. There is a lot of practical value in learning how to navigate and use this communication tool. (Set-up should take only a few minutes.)
- Time Management/Creating a Routine Assignment (30-50 minutes) See Blackboard > Seminar Activities
- Covid-19 Discussion Forum (30 minutes). See Blackboard > Discussion Forum (Under “Collaboration Tools”)
Why are we doing this activity?
- To conduct research to address a unique and pressing worldwide health problem
- To gain digital information literacy skills and to be introduced to the frameworks for information literacy from the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL)
- To use community action (crowd-sourcing) as a tool for learning and problem-solving
Optional
I made a video about working from home 🙂 Watching is optional.
Join our Slack conversation! Purely optional–just a way to socialize 🙂
Looking Ahead
Working Ahead for the Comparison Project
